The third installment of the live-action 'Five Nights at Freddy's' film series has officially entered production. According to recent reports, Gary Dauberman, known for his work on the 'Annabelle' and 'It' series, is writing the screenplay for the new film.

Emma Tammi, who directed the first two films, will return to helm the third. As with the previous entries, the film will be produced by Blumhouse Productions and Universal Pictures. Actor Matthew Lillard is also set to return, in accordance with the three-film contract he signed with Universal and Blumhouse. However, the return of other cast members, including Josh Hutcherson and Piper Rubio, as well as the release schedule, have yet to be announced.

'Five Nights at Freddy's' is based on the indie horror game series created by Scott Cawthon. Since the release of the first game in 2014, it has gained global popularity for its unique premise—surviving as a night security guard in a defunct pizza restaurant—and the tension created by its moving animatronic characters. The franchise has since expanded its universe through sequels, spin-offs, novels, and graphic novels, establishing itself as a staple of modern indie horror gaming.

The film adaptation has also seen significant success, buoyed by the popularity of the games. The first film, released in 2023, topped the North American box office in its opening weekend, marking one of the best opening performances in Blumhouse history and grossing approximately $300M worldwide. The second film, released in 2025, continued the series by further expanding the world and key characters of the original, and its box office performance paved the way for the development of this third installment.

As of now, the only officially confirmed details are that the third film is in development, Gary Dauberman is writing the script, and director Emma Tammi and actor Matthew Lillard will continue their involvement in the series.
