Sony has partnered with LEGO to recreate the original PlayStation console in brick form.

Unveiled by Sony during State of Play, the LEGO PlayStation set includes the original console released in 1994 and its controller. Consisting of 1,911 pieces, the completed model measures 26 cm wide, 19 cm deep, and approximately 6 cm high. LEGO stated that these dimensions are remarkably close to the size of the actual hardware. Furthermore, the console's Power button and Open button for the disc tray are designed to function mechanically, and the set includes a feature allowing the separately built controller to plug into the console body.

Inside the set are dioramas representing two iconic games from the original PlayStation: Gran Turismo and Ape Escape. The Gran Turismo diorama features a scaled-down track with miniature cars, while the Ape Escape diorama depicts an island scene with a customizable element that allows builders to swap the monkey character's helmet light between blue and red. Both dioramas can also be detached from the console to be displayed separately.

This is not the first time LEGO has recreated console hardware at life size. LEGO has previously released life-sized replica sets for the Nintendo NES, Atari 2600, and Game Boy. Additionally, they recently released a SEGA Mega Drive set, though that version was a smaller miniature model compared to the actual console. This PlayStation set aims for a near-life-size scale, positioning it as a highly detailed offering within LEGO's retro console lineup.

The set is priced at $179.99 in the US and 27,980 yen in Japan, with set number 72306. Sales begin on October 1 through Sony's direct channels and for LEGO Insiders, followed by general availability on LEGO.com and in retail stores starting October 4.
