Pearl Abyss has revealed the first major expansion content for 'Crimson Desert.'
Surprise-announced on Sony's State of Play stage, 'Crimson Desert: Charting the Unknown' set its release date for October 15, highlighting new systems such as underwater exploration and base building.
The core of this DLC is the addition of entirely new gameplay pillars that were previously absent from 'Crimson Desert.' In the released trailer, underwater exploration content makes its first appearance alongside scenes of protagonist Kliff directly steering a ship out to sea.
In particular, sequences showing him holding onto the back of a giant shark to travel underwater caught viewers' attention. In addition, a base and castle construction system is newly added, allowing players to decorate spaces within their territory and construct buildings themselves. A game that previously focused on land-based action is gaining entirely new dimensions in sea exploration and building.
Story-wise, the expansion is set after the conclusion of the main game. Charting the Unknown depicts Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane on a journey across the continent of Pywel to find their own purposes, framing a narrative in which they face new trials amid an ongoing state of chaos.
Pearl Abyss previously unveiled Crimson Desert Enhanced at Gamescom, adding new cutscenes and dialogue while expanding language support with new voice dubbing. With new content being added to the game in October, players look set to experience an even broader variety of gameplay.
