Capcom has unveiled a new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds' massive expansion, Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, during State of Play.
In the newly released video, Capcom introduced a new locale, new monsters, and updated combat mechanics. The expansion will launch for PS5 in 2027.
Ascendance begins a new story based on the main game, Monster Hunter Wilds. The narrative unfolds as the colossal Elder Dragon Lao-Shan Lung suddenly appears in the Forbidden Lands where the Expedition Team was stationed, leaving the team helpless as destruction ensues. As time passes, the Expedition Team constructs a new base, Madoi Stronghold, to prepare for Lao-Shan Lung's return. Meanwhile, the fog shrouding the skies above Wyveria clears, revealing an unknown region high above the clouds: Skybound Eyrie.
New monsters were also revealed. Araketa, a Bird Wyvern that soars the skies in packs, uses powerful air currents generated from its wings to fly long distances at high speeds, with pack leaders commanding their companions' movements through unique calls. The new Elder Dragon, Gundoraja, possesses the power to control storms and is depicted as a menacing foe emerging from the dense dark clouds over Skybound Eyrie. Both monsters were introduced as new species debuting in this expansion.
A new piece of gear, the Boost Bracer, is being added to the combat system. Activated via the Slinger, this gear grants new actions across all 14 weapon types. After filling the gauge by aggressively attacking monsters, players can activate Boost with dedicated actions, granting access to weapon-specific enhanced attacks and new combos for a limited time. Detailed actions for each weapon will be revealed sequentially through official channels in the future.
To play Ascendance, players must own the base game Monster Hunter Wilds, reach Hunter Rank 40, and complete the quest "Awakening from a Dream" to enter Master Rank.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is scheduled for release in 2027 on PC, PS5, and XSX|S.
