A new Joseon seonbi-themed DLC is coming to Crytek's PvPvE extraction shooter Hunt: Showdown 1896.

Crytek will release the "Sage of Joseon" DLC for Hunt: Showdown 1896 on September 9. The new Hunter introduced in this DLC is Cho Byeong-hak, a seonbi from the Joseon Dynasty, accompanied by weapon and consumable skins.

According to his revealed backstory, Cho Byeong-hak was born into a wealthy family in Jeolla Province during the Joseon era and was educated not only in politics, society, ethics, and literature, but also in battlefield tactics. In his youth, he trained in martial arts in Yecheon and demonstrated exceptional talent in archery. He eventually became a seonbi who defended justice, shared wisdom, and served the people, but came into conflict with political opponents after advocating for reform in the royal court.

While participating in a diplomatic mission to the United States, he happened to overhear a conversation about a strange blight and set out to investigate it himself. Instead of returning to Joseon, he headed south alone, discovered the corruption, and resolved to stop it. The mask and gat worn by the character serve to display his qualifications to other Hunters while ensuring he never forgets his own mission.

The DLC includes the Roaming Sage Hunter alongside the Cold Patience Uppercut, Yecheon's Treasure Hunting Bow, Tiger's Fury Dynamite Stick, and Winged Purity Waxed Dynamite Stick skins. A Roaming Sage-themed avatar and frame are also provided.

Cold Patience is an Uppercut inlaid with mother-of-pearl plum blossoms, conveying the idea that success takes time and accurate shooting requires patience. Yecheon's Treasure is a Hunting Bow tied to Yecheon, where Cho Byeong-hak trained in martial arts. Its lore adds that every time he draws the bow, he feels both relief at fending off threats and a deep longing for his home.

The consumables also reflect Cho Byeong-hak's background. Tiger's Fury is a Dynamite Stick expressing his boiling rage upon confronting monsters in a strange land. Winged Purity is a Waxed Dynamite Stick containing Cho's resolve not to forget the arts he learned at court; it features a crane, a beautiful bird that remains a fearsome presence on the water's surface.

Hunt: Showdown 1896 is a PvPvE extraction shooter developed by Crytek. Set in the late 19th-century Louisiana bayou and Colorado mountains, players become bounty hunters tasked with tracking down and eliminating monsters. In the process, they must survive while competing fiercely not only against monsters but also against other players.
