Global indie game publisher Devolver Digital has released 'Naturalist,' the final free update for the brick-breaking roguelite 'BALL x PIT,' developed by Kenny Sun, across all platforms. Released to coincide with the milestone of 2 million units sold, this update significantly expands gameplay by adding a wide array of new characters, balls, and passives.

The update introduces two new unlockable characters. The 'Ball Carrier' goes all-in on firepower; by sacrificing all passive item slots, they gain double the ball slots, allowing for overwhelming offensive builds. Conversely, the 'White-Haired Collector' carries a massive backpack full of gear. While limited to only two ball slots, their passive slots are doubled, enabling builds centered around powerful item evolutions.

Eleven new balls have also been added. The 'Lightning Bug' summons fireflies that track the strongest enemy and trigger lightning strikes on nearby targets upon bouncing, while the 'Drill' pierces through enemies to deal additional damage. 'Armageddon' calls down a destructive meteor shower the moment it hits an enemy.

Five game-changing new passives have been added as well. The 'Platinum Dumbbell,' which rewards clean shots, provides a damage boost that lasts until the ball hits the back wall. The 'Ugly Hammer' keeps the pressure on by causing balls that hit walls or the back of the arena to immediately strike a random enemy. 'Remote Detonation' causes defeated enemies to spawn explosive bomb balls, triggering chain reactions. Various other passives are also included.

While 'Naturalist' marks the final installment of the free three-part DLC trilogy following the 'Throne and Shadows' update, the adventure is not over yet. The developer stated that they plan to share more news regarding 'BALL x PIT' in the near future.
