NC to take AION 2 developer videos global ahead of September launch

NC, the South Korean publisher and developer behind upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) AION 2, has taken its developer videos global, releasing a new one aimed at international players ahead of the title's PC launch in September.

The development team that previously addressed audiences in Korea and Taiwan is now using the format to speak to a worldwide playerbase, with NC (formerly NCSOFT) pledging to communicate more frequently through videos and updates in the run-up to release.

AION 2 is a sequel to AION, the MMORPG NC first launched globally in 2009. The new game is set to arrive on PC via Steam and NC's own PURPLE platform in September, having already gone live in Korea and Taiwan in November 2025.

In the video, Game Director Nam-Joon Kim, Head of AION 2 Global Publishing In-Sub So and Executive Publishing Producer Merv Lee Kwai discussed the game's core features, the connection between the original AION and its sequel, and the team's design goals.

According to a release, AION 2's key features include full 3D flight, aerial combat and more than 200 dungeons. NC said the game also offers a deep character creation tool, a range of wing designs and a pet system that doubles as a mount system, alongside improved player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) gameplay compared to the original.

"Whether you're a new player or a returning one, you'll be able to discover firsthand the charm that the world of Atreia holds," Kim said. "The stage for all of those experiences is a newly expanded Atreia." Leading up to the global launch, NC said it wants to connect with players more often through its videos and updates.

"The development team in Korea and the members of NC America are working tirelessly to deliver the best possible AION 2 experience," So said. "We ask for your continued interest, support, and anticipation."

AION 2's rocky Korean debut

The push for closer communication comes after a turbulent launch in AION 2's home region. When the game went live in Korea and Taiwan in November 2025, it drew heavy criticism from players over its monetisation, with many arguing the model leaned towards pay-to-win. NC's share price fell by around 15% on launch day, and the company issued a public apology, pulling several items that boosted combat power from its store.

NC has since said the global version will be free-to-play, though it is yet to confirm full details of how the game will be monetised in Western markets. The studio has indicated its in-game store will focus on cosmetic items.

The company behind Blade & Soul, Lineage and Guild Wars, NC has been reshaping its global portfolio, with AION 2 positioned as its flagship PC MMORPG for the year. Players can currently wishlist the game on Steam ahead of its September release.
