According to an official announcement on Saigon Buffalo's social media account, the Vietnamese esports team has been acquired by Korean organization CNJ esports. The team will continue to compete in the Vietnam Championship Series — a league they have regularly been one of the strongest teams competing. The news comes after the organization most recently competed at the 2022 League of Legends World Championship.

Throughout the year, SGB expressed the desire to have new parties invested in the team. CNJ esports expressed excitement about the acquisition, stating in a Twitter post that, "CNJ esports will now take over the legacy of Saigon Buffalo, a symbol of Vietnam's esports. [Please] pay attention to our beautiful challenge to represent Asian esports by connecting Vietnam and Korea."

The parent company, JUEGO, is a South Korean think tank primarily focused on esports. Their esports brand, CNJ esports, has representatives in other games such as VALORANT, Teamfight Tactics, and Tekken. In an interview with Esports Insider, JUEGO's Executive Director Su Yong Park explained the organization's desire to connect South Korea and Vietnam, stating that "In industry, there’s Samsung. As for sports, there are Korean coaching staff for the Vietnam national teams, and in entertainment, there is a Vietnamese member of K pop music group NewJeans. We want to be the esports link between the countries."

Saigon Buffalo is one of the most successful teams in the Vietnamese region. The roster gained international prominence throughout 2022 because of their performance at MSI and Worlds: earning many wins on elite teams, and boasting an aggressive and entertaining playstyle. This year, they placed second in VCS Spring and VCS Summer, and also placed 5th-6th at MSI. Over the past two years, they have stood with GAM Esports as one of the best two teams in the region.
