TSM has announced that next Tuesday, construction will begin on an esports training facility in Playa Vista. When the facility is finished in February of 2020, it will become the headquarters for the esports organization.

TSM's announcement comes after the organiztions flagship League of Legends team failed to qualify for the 2019 World Championship. Not only was this the second year in a row TSM has failed to make a Worlds appearance, but those two years are the only time in LoL Esports history that TSM has not qualified for the World Championship.

TSM's fall from top status in the North America's LCS is due in no shortage to other LCS organizations catching up to TSM's pace. In the franchised LCS era, TSM's competition has far more resources and infrastructure to compete with the winningest LoL team in NA history. Team Liquid, who opened its Alienware Training Facility in Santa Monica, CA at the start of 2018, has gone on to win the past four LCS splits in a row, including a reverse sweep victory over TSM in the 2019 LCS Spring Finals.

TSM's LoL division won't have to move too far, as Playa Vista is adjacent to Santa Monica, but other teams under the brand umbrella may have to travel further than simply relocating to another part of greater Los Angeles. Since the facility will become the home base of the organization upon completion, the entirety of TSM's organization will be centered in Playa Vista.

Aside from its top priority in League of Legends, TSM currently has players and  teams all over the world in Fortnite, Rocket League, Hearthstone, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and more. Bringing the entire brand and its various forms of representation under one roof should standardize the organization's approach across multiple esports, and hopefully, replace some of the org's rather archaic methods in favor of streamlined methods of modern practice.

TSM remains a globally recognized force in esports, but has fallen off its throne as the top North American esports organization over the past few years as Cloud9 and Team Liquid continue to set the standard within the ecosystem. This new training facility may be what the organiztion needs to get back on top.
