Gen.G Goes Undefeated to Secure Second Straight MSI Championship

Gen.G completed an undefeated run at the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational by defeating T1 in a full five-game final at the Pacific Coliseum. The defending champion team prevailed 3-2 to secure back-to-back MSI crowns, becoming only the third squad to win consecutive titles after SK Telecom T1 in 2016–17 and Royal Never Give Up in 2021–22.

Gen.G carried momentum from an 18-0 start in the LCK regular season into both play-in and bracket stages, including a reverse sweep of Hanwha Life Esports in the regional qualifier. In the bracket stage, the team opened with a 3-1 victory over G2 Esports before edging Anyone’s Legend 3-2 in the second round. A subsequent win over T1 in the winners’ bracket final advanced Gen.G directly to the grand final.

T1 battled through the losers’ bracket with a 3-2 win over Anyone’s Legend to earn a rematch in the final. That championship series featured four of five games decided by narrow margins. Gen.G rebounded from an opening loss with wins in games two and four to force a decisive game five. Dominance in dragon control and coordinated team fights in the final match allowed Gen.G to close out the series and finish the tournament unbeaten.

Riot Games introduced the best-of-five Fearless Draft format for all bracket matches and finals, resulting in nine of 19 total matches stretching to five games and underscoring the narrowing gap between regions. FlyQuest of the merged Americas–Asia Pacific region upset G2 Esports in the play-in stage and then pushed Bilibili Gaming to the limit, highlighting the depth of international competition.

Gen.G’s championship earns a $500,000 share of the $2 million prize pool and secures a strong position for direct qualification to the 2025 World Championship under Riot Games’ new automatic berth rule for MSI winners.
