SkateBIRD — a game that is exactly what it sounds like — is coming to Nintendo Switch next year

Glass Bottom Games, developer of Hot Tin Roof and Spartan Fist, is launching a new title in 2020. SkateBIRD, a game about skateboarding birds trying their best, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch late next year. SkateBIRD can currently be wishlisted on Steam.

SkateBIRD holds nothing back right from the title: the game is about a bird named Skatebird who is unable to fly. Fortunately for Skatebird, they have learned a different type of travel — they utilize miniature skateboards not unlike the Tech Deck miniature board brand. Glass Bottom Games' official announcement featured a trailer made by the Washington-based game developer.

Glass Bottom Games is an independent developer who works entirely remotely, and has found their niche in what they describe as  'the cute and absurd.' The developer had this to say about its upcoming game in its announcement:

"This is our new game! Yay! Drop in, and be a skateboarding bird. Grind on bendy straws, kickflip over staplers, and carve killer lines through cardboard and sticky tape parks. Skate an expansively tiny world with simple controls even a Hawk named Tony would dig. Skatebird can’t fly, but on a board, they soar."

SkateBIRD was originally planned for a '2019ish' release, but after a kickstarter that raised over $67,000, set on late 2020. The Nintendo Switch title is another feather in the cap of an independent game developer space burgeoning with creativity and innvoation at the turn of the decade.
