Overwatch Lunatic-Hai has disbanded their team

Lunatic-Hai, a pro Overwatch team, made an official announcement on the team disbanding via their official website on January 19th.

According to the announcement, the team decided to disband because “it was difficult to face the radical changes within and outside Overwatch; we couldn’t be certain of consistent investment for the organization and the business, and we couldn’t bring the organization, the staff, and the players’ positions together as one.”

Lunatic-hai was a team with outstanding performance and many fans, winning twice in the APEX League since playing in the early phase of the Overwatch competitive scene. However, they said they had no choice but disband their team, as many of their former players left the team to join the new Overwatch League teams, and they had to decide on whether to participate in the Chinese Overwatch Team Story or not, while also having to prepare for the Overwatch Contenders Korea after the new team build.

Lunatic-Hai also revealed that they “will be giving up on all contract rights to our players so that they can transfer to other teams with more ease, and we are trying our best to discuss with other organizations our players can possibly transfer to.” Lunatic-Hai continued, asserting that there are no future plans to create another team and that they will instead prioritize their current business.

Details on Lunatic-Hai’s announcement can be read below or via their official website.

▣ Lunatic-Hai’s announcement on disbanding the team

Hello, I am Tae-Su Kim, the coach for Lunatic-Hai.

I am sincerely sorry to announce that we are disbanding Lunatic-Hai.

The reasons for the team disband were that it was difficult to face the radical changes within and outside Overwatch; we couldn’t be certain of consistent investment for the organization and the business, and we couldn’t bring the organization, the staff, and the players’ positions together as one. We decided to disband Lunatic-Hai in the end after discussing several matters with the staff and players.

We also had to decide on whether or not to participate in the Overwatch Team Story and Contenders, and we are sorry that we had to make a sudden announcement like this, but we thought we shouldn’t disappoint the Overwatch League, the players, and the fans any further.

Lunatic-Hai will be giving up on all contract rights to our players so that they can transfer to other teams with more ease, and we are trying our best to discuss with other organizations our players can possibly transfer to.

At this moment, we have no future plans to create another esports team after disbanding Lunatic-Hai, and we plan to stay focused on the current business.

I would like to express my gratitude for everyone who loved Lunatic-Hai, and I am sincerely sorry that we couldn’t make it to the end.

Thank you.
