New Overwatch comic details events directly after Sombra reveal trailer.

A new Overwatch comic, "Searching" was released this week, detailing the aftermath of Sombra's attack on Volskaya and Zarya's mission to find her. Sombra's affinity for all things tech and duplicitous nature is the perfect foil for Zarya's more linear thinking.

Zarya knows, at best, three things to be certain in the world:

1. Omnics are bad.
2. Mother Russia is great.
3. I am the strongest woman alive.

So when she is tasked with uncovering Sombra's motives and forced to work alongside an omnic hacker, readers already know that this comic will be about pushing Zarya out of her comfort zone.

▲ Sombra's web of influence is massive and Zarya is just beginning to understand the complexities that surround her.

After comically going door-to-door and asking locals if they have seen the most elusive hacker in the world, Zarya miraculously finds a clue. Hot on Sombra's trail, she is forced to contend with her hatred of omnics and the possibility that not all omnics are bad. After all, the destruction her Siberian town endured was at the hands of omnics built for war, not for peace.

▲Zarya has a troubled past with omnics, yet is forced to work together with one to track down Sombra.

In the comic, Zarya confronts Sombra directly and after a duel with Sombra, she proves that both she and gravity are some of the strongest forces alive. Is it then that Sombra reveals the ugly truth about Russia newest tech coming directly from omnics, despite publically signaling themselves as a super-power against Omnics at all cost.

Despite this, Zarya's loyalty to Russa is unwavering, and it takes Sombra activating a self-destruct mechanism that would blow up entire facility for her to escape. In the scuffle, It is revealed that Zarya somehow knows Sombra's real name! Whether that information came from is still unknown, but Zarya figured it out.

▲ Zarya uses Graviton Surge to stop Sombra from escaping.

After saving her Omnic ally and trying her best to understand what just happened, Zarya sets to return to Russia. Only this time, things aren't as simple for Russia's most decorated athlete turned defender. Will she confront Katy Volskaya for lying to her? Does she believe Sombra that something "big" is going to happen that affects the entire planet?

▲The comic ends with a reflective moment. The world is more complicated than she envisioned and, for now, the Russian Front is the only place she knows.

The most important aspect of these questions is that they challenge Zarya's position in the world. Will she still stand alongside Russia and defend it against foreign enemies, or does the real threat to Russian lie within? The comic serves begins a larger arc involving Zarya and raise both the stakes and the complexities of her previously simple motives
