Riot Games has opened registration for “Legends of Runeterra,” a new amateur Teamfight Tactics (TFT) tournament offering a 20 million KRW prize pool and a chance for top finishers to advance to a higher-tier competition. The event aims to spotlight Korea’s strongest amateur competitors in the popular auto-battler set in the League of Legends universe.
Sign-ups are available through Level Up GG until Dec. 9, and Riot says the competition is open to all players regardless of in-game rank. However, those who have appeared in major professional TFT competitions—such as the TFT Pro Circuit, Golden Spatula, or APAC Regional Finals—within the past year will not be eligible to participate. According to Riot, this restriction is intended to preserve the amateur-focused nature of the tournament.
Korea’s Strongest TFT Amateur to Be Crowned
Online qualifiers begin Dec. 6 and will take place across four days during a two-week period. Competitors may join from home or a PC café, and Riot is allowing players to participate in multiple qualifier days if they choose. Successful players will move on to the semifinals on Dec. 20, followed by the offline grand finals on Dec. 21. Riot plans to broadcast the finals live.
The top two finishers from “Legends of Runeterra” will earn entry into the “Strategist Cup,” an upper-level competition in Korea’s TFT ecosystem. Riot says additional information, including detailed schedules and rules, can be found on the official TFT website and tournament page.
Teamfight Tactics has continued to grow as one of Riot’s expanding Runeterra-based titles. Since launching in 2019, TFT has become one of the most popular strategy games worldwide, supported by regular set releases and an active competitive scene. The “Legends of Runeterra” tournament marks another effort by Riot to support grassroots TFT competition and provide more structured pathways for rising players.
Riot, known for League of Legends, VALORANT, and the Emmy-winning animated series Arcane, has continued to broaden its portfolio while developing new competitive opportunities across its games. The company hosted the 2023 League of Legends World Championship in Korea and has emphasized long-term plans to expand esports as a multigenerational form of entertainment.
