The Evolution Championship Series, better known as Evo, is entering a new chapter of international expansion with fresh ownership and long-term sponsorship deals. Organizers announced Thursday that esports company NODWIN Gaming has acquired Sony Interactive Entertainment’s stake in Evo, joining co-owner RTS in guiding the future of the fighting game festival.
Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) will remain involved with Evo as a global sponsor through 2028, supporting the competitive community through its PlayStation Tournaments platform and other products. Phil Rosenberg, SIE’s senior vice president of global partner development and relations, said the company sees Evo’s momentum accelerating following record events in Las Vegas and Tokyo.
EVO ANNOUNCES NEXT PHASE OF INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION
NODWIN Gaming, based in South Asia, is well known for its presence in esports and youth entertainment across emerging markets. Co-founder Akshat Rathee said the company intends to build on Evo’s grassroots legacy while making it more accessible to new audiences worldwide.
Qiddiya, a Saudi Arabian entertainment initiative, also expanded its role with Evo by investing in RTS and extending its partnership through 2027. RTS CEO Stuart Saw said the backing will strengthen Evo’s ability to deliver “new opportunities, deeper connections, and meaningful growth” for the fighting game community.
Evo’s reach has steadily grown in recent years, with its flagship Las Vegas tournament drawing players from more than 60 countries and featuring 16 different titles. Evo Japan also set attendance records in 2024, while the series will debut in Europe this October at Nice, France, with registrations already breaking regional records. Organizers confirmed that Singapore will host its first Evo event in 2027.
General Manager Rick Thiher said the new partnerships will help Evo expand beyond tournaments into original content and more immersive live experiences, ensuring the brand remains a central hub for fighting game culture.
