The new Nintendo Switch title 'Tomodachi Life: Heart-Pounding Life' sold 7.94 million units in its first quarter on the market.
In its Q1 earnings report for the fiscal year ending March 2027 (April–June 2026), released on the 6th, Nintendo stated that the title saw significant sales growth. Released on April 16, the game reached 7.94 million units in about two and a half months, accounting for 23.5% of the 33.81 million total Nintendo Switch software units sold during the same period. This is the highest individual sales figure among all titles disclosed in Nintendo's quarterly earnings report.
Notably, the game is not exclusive to the new console. Nintendo Switch 2 software sales for the same quarter totaled 9.46 million units, meaning this single Nintendo Switch title nearly matched the entire lineup of the new console, reaching 84% of its performance. The Nintendo Switch 2 software sales were driven by titles such as 'Yoshi's Magical Encyclopedia' (released in May), the global release of 'Star Fox' (June), and 'Pokémon Pokopia' (released in March).
'Tomodachi Life: Heart-Pounding Life' is a simulator game where players watch Mii characters they have created live freely on an island. Players can customize the residents' appearance, voice, and personality, decorate the island's terrain and items, and intervene in the relationships between residents. Although it is a Nintendo Switch title, it is also playable on the Nintendo Switch 2. The suggested retail price is ₩64800 for both the package and download versions, and it is rated for all ages.
Regarding hardware, 3.82 million units of the Nintendo Switch 2 and 660k units of the Nintendo Switch were sold during the same quarter. Nintendo explained that because the Nintendo Switch 2 supports backward compatibility with existing Nintendo Switch software, titles from the previous generation continue to maintain stable sales.
Consolidated revenue for the first quarter was 517.8 billion JPY (approximately ₩4.61 trillion), a 9.5% decrease year-on-year, while operating profit rose 150.5% to 142.5 billion JPY (approximately ₩1.269 trillion). Nintendo attributed the profit growth to an increased proportion of software sales and a refund of U.S. IEEPA tariffs.
