Former Cloud9 top laner and LCS 2022 Spring MVP Park “Summit” Woo-tae has officially joined FunPlus Phoenix ahead of week 3 of the LPL 2022 Summer Split.

The 23-year-old South Korean top laner rose to the top of the LCS with Cloud9 and won the LCS 2022 Spring Regular Season MVP. Now, he is set to take his talents to the LPL as FunPlus Phoenix’s newest top laner.

“Today, we’re thrilled to announce Summit will be joining the FPX family as our new top laner!” FunPlus Phoenix wrote on Twitter. “After his exceptional performance in the LCS Spring season, we’re excited to see him bring a new perspective to our team! Let’s give a warm welcome to FPX.Sumit!”

Last split, the FunPlus Phoenix lineup centered around AD carry Lin "Lwx" Wei-Xiang modestly performed to expectations and finished with an 8-8 record in Spring to nab the final playoff spot. In Summer, however, FunPlus Phoenix struggled to find any traction in the early stages of the LPL 2022 Summer Split. Currently, FunPlus Phoenix stands at an 0-3 series record and 2-4 individual games record. While a sum of that record can be attributed to facing tough opponents like EDward Gaming and Royal Never Give Up, the team heavily struggled against Invictus Gaming in an 0-2 loss.

Currently, FunPlus Phoenix has emerging talent, Ping “Xiaolaohu” Xiao-hu, as their primary starting top laner, who has been one of the team’s shining points throughout 2022.  It is uncertain if Summit will gain sole possession of the starting role in FunPlus Phoenix or if both players will opt for a platoon role in the team and share information.

Regardless, Summit and FunPlus Phoenix will attempt to reverse their fortunes in week 3 against Victory Five and TOP Esports where the team looks to grab their first series win in Summer.

Meanwhile, week 2 of the 2022 LPL Summer Split will conclude Sunday, June 19, 2022 with Anyone’s Legend vs. Bilibili Gaming and LNG Esports vs. ThunderTalk Gaming.
