Former world champion and legendary mid laner for 2021 Taipei Assassins, Kurtis “Toyz” Lau, has been arrested under drug trafficking charges.

According to reports by multiple Taiwanese news outlets, a search warrant was issued for Lau’s residences. Upon search, marijuana was found at the residence, alongside evidence that led to suggest the intention to sell. Lau was taken into custody for drug testing, with police requesting the court to detain him further.

Under Taiwan’s Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, marijuana’s classified as a Class 2 illegal drug. Those with the intent to distribute a Class 2 narcotic can face up to seven years in jail time, and a fine up to five million New Taiwan dollars.

Toyz is a pro gamer who debuted in 2011. As the mid laner of Taipei Assassin’s lineup in 2012, they beat Korea’s Azubu Frost in the grand finals to become the season 2 world champions. Since then, he has worked with multiple esports organizations for many years, eventually shifting his focus to content creation.
