[Exclusive] cvMax sentenced to pay a 1M KRW (905 USD) fine

The court gave Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho’s final verdict. On Feb. 18, the Uijeongbu district court sentenced cvMax to a 1,000,000 KRW (~905 USD) fine, the same as the initial summary order. When asked whether he would appeal, cvMax answered that he’ll consult his attorney.

After first being sued by Choi “Sword” Sung-won in November 2019, cvMax was given a summary order from the prosecution in mid-2020. Objecting to the summary order, cvMax filed for a formal trial and a total of six public trials were held from August 2020.

Sword’s accusation was that cvMax hit the chair he was sitting in and shook him by the shoulder during feedback in February 2019. Three witnesses that were at the scene during the feedback testified during the trials, and all said that they did not witness the incident but said that there was physical contact during some of the feedback sessions.

CvMax’s attorney claimed that Cho Gyu-nam conciliated the players with lies to make conflicts with cvMax because of the Kanavi incident, and that Sword was still close with cvMax even after the accused date, Feb. 2019. He also said that cvMax’s feedback did not exceed the boundary of rational coaching methods and pleaded innocent.

Last December, cvMax had been penalized by the Esports Fair Commission with a 5-month suspension. The Esports Fair Commission had cleared that they will maintain the suspension regardless of the final verdict.
