[KeSPA Cup] DWG Canyon: "kkOma said it’s his first time being in the finals of KeSPA Cup... I’d like to add another trophy with him."

On the 26th, DAMWON Gaming defeated Hanwha Life Esports 3-1 in the semifinals of the 2020 KeSPA Cup Ulsan. Although DAMWON Gaming lost the second game to Hanwha Life Esports, DAMWON Gaming had consistent macro in games 1, 3, and 4 to claim the victory and a spot at the finals. After the match, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu joined Inven for an interview.

You’ve reached the finals of the 2020 KeSPA Cup. How do you feel?

I’m very happy that we reached the finals, but it’s regretful that our performance wasn’t as good as we expected.

What was regretful?

Overall, situations weren’t that urgent, but we played in too much of a rush, and there was a big mistake during game 2 in a teamfight. Our calls were in a hurry. If we can improve these parts, we would be able to show better performances in the future.

You lost game 2. What was the reason?

I thought we would be able to win without that much trouble since we gained much in the early game, but during a dragon teamfight, no one thought about Chovy’s Yone. Khan was coming down from the top and the opponents didn’t have Flash -- we only thought of killing them all. From the next game, we had bans we could utilize, so we just banned Yone.

Ghost played Senna in game 3, which is rather off meta. How did you pick her?

We were looking for bot lane champions during scrims and tried Senna. The result wasn’t bad so we played her. The fact that Ghost is confident on Senna was another reason.

Khan’s Akali carried the team in Game 4. Was that expected?

We were aware that Khan is really good at playing Akali. There were mistakes in the early game, but he made us feel easy since he covered all the mistakes we made.

You played Kha’Zix. How’s the jungle champion tiers in the current meta?

I think if you play a champion that you’re confident in playing, it’s all similar. To me, Graves and Olaf feel the most comfortable.

It’s been more than a month since you’ve been with kkOma. How is he?

It was easy to get close to him since he started conversations first and treated us comfortably. Khan joined the team at a similar time -- he has a similar personality as well so it’s really good. KkOma has a decorated and long career; he’s a big help in the game as well.

Does Ghost really dance beside you when you play solo queue?

It’s really true. He dances around especially when I’m losing. I try to ignore him even if he gets on my nerves.

You’ll be playing against kt Rolster or Nongshim RedForce in the finals. Which team do you think would make it?

When I was watching the games, I thought both teams were really good. I don’t know which team we’d face, I believe it would be close.

How are you going to be playing in the finals?

KkOma said that it’s his first time being in the finals of KeSPA Cup. By winning in the finals, I’d like to add another trophy with him.
