[LCK Today] No longer 'The Gatekeepers' of the LCK, Afreeca Freecs defeat T1 and move on in the LCK playoffs

Afreeca Freecs proved that they’re no longer ‘The Gatekeeprs’ of the LCK. They looked like a completely different team from their regular split versions of themselves. On the 26th (KST), in the Wildcard match between AF and T1, AF managed to take the huge upset victory over T1 to face Gen.G in Round 1 of the 2020 LCK Summer playoffs.

AF’s strategy in game 1 was to focus on macro through side lanes. Because of their use of Twisted Fate putting a lot of focus on the top lane, they gave up three dragons, so it looked as if they were behind. However, a huge teamfight in the mid game led to AF taking the Baron buff, widened the global gold gap, and led to AF leading the series 1:0.

Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok was subbed in for game 2. With Faker playing Twisted Fate, he managed to snowball both top and bot lane. With key gold cards coming through in teamfights by Faker, they created a 10K gold lead to even up the series 1:1.

AF pulled out top Kalista against Renekton-Sett in top and mid lane respectively. The priority from the top lane, Fly’s incredible performance on Zoe, and a lucky blind Trueshot Barrage from Jin “Mystic” Seong-jun taking out the enemy Karthus in the jungle got the team very far ahead. Despite T1 looking like they were successfully turtling to scale, AF’s lead was too much for them to handle. AF defeated T1 with a set score of 2:1, and ‘The Gatekeepers’ topple ‘The Titans’ to move on to face Gen.G.
