DWG Nuguri: "While the fans may not realize this, our coaching staff did so much for us to improve."

On the 2nd (KST), day 33 of the 2020 LCK Summer split took place at LoL park, Seoul. DAMWON Gaming took a clean 2-0 victory against Hanwha Life Esports, which was a result that many experts have expected from this match up. With both game 1 and 2 ending in a landslide victory that ended in under 25 minutes, they proved why they’re one of the most dominant teams of the Summer split.

The top laner for DWG, Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, joined the press room for a post-match interview.

How does it feel to take the victory today?

After we beat DRX, if we win all our matches, then we’re seeded directly in the finals, so I’m very happy about today’s victory.

You played Jayce in both games of the series. Was it a show of confidence?

Not only was I confident, we all thought that picking Jayce blind was okay during the draft.

You died twice in the early game during game 1. Did it have a huge impact in the game at all?

I was facing Renekton as Jayce, and there was a bit of gank threat in the top lane. I tried to play as safe as possible, but Galio-Renekton combo is really good for gank set up, so I died a little bit.

If DWG 2-0’s all the upcoming matches, they can break SKT T1’s record of +29 points.

Obviously, we’d love to break that record. However, we do have matches against Gen.G and T1, so I don’t think it’ll be easy (laughter).

Your next opponent is Gen.G.

Not only is Gen.G very proactive at diving side lanes, their top laner, Rascal, is very good with his use of teleports. That’s one of the many things we need to watch out for.

The team’s recent performance is very impressive. DWG was already an aggressive team, but nowadays, the team’s playing even better. What is your take on the reason for the team’s increased performance?

While I think our playstyle is the same as before, our players’ individual prowess has gone up quite a bit. Also, while the fans may not realize this, our coaching staff did so much for us to improve as well.

Lastly, is there anything you want to say to the fans?

Our next opponent is Gen.G. While we may not have a great track record against them, we’ll make sure to take them down, just like we did with DRX.
