DWG BeryL: "Without making risky plays, we won't be able to reach a higher place."

On the 15th (KST), DAMWON Gaming took on Team Dynamics in the 2020 LCK Summer split. With a set score of 2-0, DWG dominated Team Dynamics to close out their journey in round 1. The support player for DWG, BeryL, played Wukong Support, and showed off his incredible presence during teamfights in game 2, and was named Player of the Game for his game 2 performance.

The following is the press room interview with BeryL.

Can you tell us how you feel about the victory?

All the matches we won in round 1 were 2-0s, so I’m very proud.

DWG ended the split with a 7-2 record in the standings. Are you satisfied with the results?

I firmly believe that our losses against Gen.G and DragonX were salvageable as well. There’s a mix of satisfaction and disappointment.

What kind of feedback was there after the loss against DRX?

There were consecutive mistakes made in game 1. Game 3 was definitely winnable, but it was a game where it made us realize that we lack in our macro, so we received a lot of feedback on our macro as well.

Team Dynamics did not shy away from skirmishes. How do you rate their gameplay today?

Most teams high in the standings’ game plan against us is to draw out the game and outscale, but Team Dynamics picked up strong champions to pick a lot of fights against us. Even so, the fact that we couldn’t get a lot of kills on them made me realize that they’re a really strong team.

There were instances where players make risky plays and get caught out.

I believe that without making such risky plays, we won’t be able to reach a higher place. We’re in the process of grooming such plays to make them more organized.

Why did you decide to play Wukong support today?

I played Wukong a couple of times after his rework, but I was uncertain on his viability. However, after watching players in other regions play him, he looked great.

In recent days, your unorthodox support champion pool has been something the community has been talking about a lot. Did all the unorthodox champions you pulled out come from scrims?

Actually, during scrims, I tend to play more traditional support champions. However, I have this tendency to inch towards the frontlines, but those traditional champions tend to die easily. I don’t think they fit my playstyle, so I use champions that fit the bill accordingly.

You're now in second place for the POG (Player of the Game) race. Do you feel like you’ll be able to get the regular season MVP award?

Bdd is really good, so while I don’t think I’ll be able to get that award, I want the team to be in 1st place of the regular season to play in the LCK finals.

Lastly, a word to your fans?

There were many disappointing factors in round 1, so we’ll make sure to fix them to perform at a higher level in round 2.
