[LCK Today] AF sweeps SB with Mystic's pentakill, DRX defeats T1 for the first time

The 2020 League of Legends Champions Korea Summer Split has finally started. On the first day, Afreeca Freecs played SANDBOX Gaming and DRX faced T1.

Afreeca Freecs and SANDBOX Gaming started the season. The game was neck and neck as the two teams each took Ezreal and Aphelios in their bot lanes, but after a fight over an Infernal Drake, the game tilted towards Afreeca Freecs. It resulted in Baron going in Afreeca’s favor. SANDBOX Gaming attempted to turn the game around by initiating a teamfight on Jin “Mystic” Seong-jun’s Aphelios but this resulted in a pentakill by Mystic. Afreeca ended the game in 28 minutes.

Wukong was picked for the first time in 2,246 days in the LCK as SANDBOX Gaming top laner Park “Summit” Woo-tae picked him. Afreeca Freecs’ bot lane picked up a kill from the beginning by supplying pressure on the bot lane from the beginning as Mystic’s Kalista jumped forward. While Afreeca Freecs snowballed their lead, SANDBOX Gaming managed to stay in the game by collecting three dragons. However, that was about it. Mystic’s Kalista had already scaled well and Afreeca Freecs succeeded to get the first win of the season.

In the first game between DRX and T1, Aphelios was left unbanned while Ezreal and Varus were banned. DRX first picked Aphelios and that created a difference. Through the lane priority in bot lane, DRX took two kills in bot lane as Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon’s Twisted Fate joined the fight with a timely ult. T1 managed to keep the global gold difference from getting bigger, but as Kim “Deft” Hyuk-gyu’s Aphelios started dealing massive damage, even Ornn wasn’t able to stand ground. Deft was voted as the Player of the Game anonymously.

T1 struck back in the second game. Park “Teddy” Jin-seong’s Kalista and Kim “Canna” Chang-dong’s Camille scaled quietly until the end. The fights were quite balanced; the two teams each won a fair share, but the dragon buffs all went to T1. When Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok’s Azir was scaled as well, the game went in T1’s way.

The early objectives were taken by T1 and they had the edge. However, after Chovy’s Ziggs picked up a triple kill, the damage became massive. Combined with Ryu “Keria” Min-seok’s Bard, and the Cloud drake’s soul, Ziggs bombed T1 severely. T1 insisted on split pushing with Kayle, but Ziggs’ demolitions were faster. DRX finished the game in 33 minutes.
