New information regarding 'RPG Maker U2U', the latest version of the RPG Maker game creation tool series currently under development by Gotcha Gotcha Games, was revealed today (the 21st).
Gotcha Gotcha Games announced through its official X that the title of the new game has been confirmed as 'RPG Maker U2U', and introduced the meaning behind the name and various new features.
Gotcha Gotcha Games explained that the new title 'U2U' carries the meaning of "Up to you." "We chose this name with the hope that users would freely utilize RPG Maker and create games according to their own unique imagination and creative style," they added. Gacha Gacha Games unveiled 'P2D (Perspective 2D),' a new expression technique reminiscent of HD-2D, describing it as "a technology that vividly implements 2D maps within a three-dimensional space." This has made it possible to express three-dimensional depth, which was difficult to implement in existing RPG Makers, as well as to create richer visuals using advanced lighting effects. The biggest feature of the RPG Maker series is that games can be easily created without any separate coding knowledge. 'RPG Maker U2U' maintained this direction despite achieving technical advancements such as the introduction of P2D. Inheriting the creation methods of existing 2D RPG Makers, it offers an intuitive user experience; you can create everything from floor tiles to buildings from scratch, or easily configure maps using presets and block combination functions.

Another key feature is the ability to reuse existing RPG Maker assets. This is the point. For users who have been creating games with the existing RPG Maker, no matter how excellent the features a new tool offers, the fact that they must abandon their existing work and create from scratch inevitably acts as a burden. Fortunately, 'RPG Maker U2U' has made it possible to alleviate these concerns. Gacha Gacha Games expressed confidence, stating, "Not only official assets, but also precious 2D assets that have been collected or created by users over a long period of time can be reused as decorative elements after undergoing some modifications," and added, "You will be surprised to see existing map tiles and characters expressed with a completely new feel in an environment enhanced with dynamic lighting and 3D spatial awareness." The release date for 'RPG Maker U2U,' which is being developed based on the Unity Engine, has not yet been announced. Meanwhile, 'RPG Maker U2U' is scheduled to be showcased at BitSummit, held from May 22 to 24, to welcome visitors. Over 100 presets are expected to be included © Gacha Gacha Games
