CD Projekt Red (CDPR) announced today (the 3rd) that its open-world action game, 'Cyberpunk 2077,' has reached a cumulative sales milestone of 40 million units.
Michał Nowakowski, joint CEO of CDPR, stated via the official CDPR IR social media channel, "Reaching 40 million units is a testament to the incredible and enduring strength of Cyberpunk 2077. This serves as an excellent foundation for future projects based on this universe." He also added that the highly anticipated 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' is scheduled to be unveiled this autumn.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world action game released by CDPR on December 10, 2020. Based on the world of Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk TRPG, it garnered significant attention for its unfiltered portrayal of the decadent and lawless atmosphere of the cyberpunk genre. While the game faced criticism at launch for various bugs, optimization issues, and a lack of polish, consistent patches and major updates helped it surpass 18 million units sold by April 2022.
Following the success of the animated series 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' in September 2022, the game reached 20 million units sold. It then hit 35 million units following the 2023 release of the 'Phantom Liberty' expansion and the 2025 launches on Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac. With the announcement of 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' in June, the game has now reached 40 million units, maintaining a steady upward trajectory.
Meanwhile, CDPR is participating in Anime Expo, held at the LA Convention Center from the 2nd to the 5th (local time), and will host a panel talk on 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' on the 3rd at 7:30 PM local time. The panel will feature Bartosz Sztybor, CDPR's VP of IP Franchise and writer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners; Executive Producer Saya Elder; Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 director Kai Igarashi; and a special guest, who will engage with fans.
