Shin Sang-moon has successfully reached the semifinals of an individual league for the first time in his career.

In the Google Play ASL Season 21 quarterfinals held at Freec Up Studio in Daechi-dong, Seoul, on the 28th, Shin Sang-moon dominated Yoon Soo-chul with seasoned play, winning 3-0. With this victory, he advances to his first-ever individual league semifinals, where he will face Park Sang-hyun.

In the first set on Knockout, both players had a standard start with fast expansions. Yoon took a third base after an Observer and prepared Reavers, while Shin quickly built four Factories to attempt a timing rush. Yoon maneuvered his Dragoons to cut off the path of the Terran reinforcements and broke the siege at his natural expansion, but the Terran reinforcements arrived immediately to reclaim the advantageous position.

Although Yoon had a significant lead in supply due to his superior resource intake, his Zealot production was delayed. Yoon gave Shin too much time, and Shin secured his position while simultaneously expanding to the 6 o'clock and 5 o'clock bases. With the Terran now ahead in resources as well, Yoon could no longer hold out and declared 'GG.

In the second set, Shin continued to build Siege Tanks from the start, much like in the first set, to pressure the Protoss. However, this was a psychological ploy, as he was actually preparing his own third base. Shin focused on harassing Probes with Vultures and had no intention of launching a full-scale attack.

Given the nature of the Match Point map, the Terran prepared for an even game, investing in upgrades and aiming for the long haul. While both players made control errors as the game dragged on, the Terran had the better overall strategy. The war of attrition continued until the map's resources were nearly exhausted, with the Terran pulling ahead in unit count to make it 2-0.

In the third set, Shin played even more safely. After a one-factory double, he quickly built an Engineering Bay before adding more Factories. Although the Protoss had a good rhythm after taking a fast third base, Shin slowly caught up in expansions and disrupted the Protoss with Vultures. With a solid operational foundation, Shin used a single, well-upgraded mechanical army to destroy the Protoss natural expansion and the 3 o'clock base, securing the win and a 3-0 sweep to advance to the semifinals.
