Blizzard Introduces the Heroes of the Storm Open Division

Blizzard released details for the Open Division, which will be played alongside the Heroes Global Championship league in North America and Europe during the Heroes of the Storm Spring Season. The Open Division is a chance for amateur players to test their mettle and fight for the opportunity to qualify for the HGC premier league.

Amateur teams will compete in seven tournament cups per region, hosted by GosuGamers, with the top 16 teams receiving points based on their placement. Top placing teams in each cup also win cash prizes. At the end of the season, points are totalled and the top 16 teams will be put head-to-head in a single elimination playoff bracket.

The top two teams from the Open Division playoffs will be granted an opportunity to fight the bottom two HGC teams for a chance at breaking into the big leagues. The first place Open Division team will get to choose their opponent. From there, it’s only a Bo7 series separating the amateurs from the premier league.

The Open Division cups are scheduled to alternate weekly between North America and Europe. The competition in Europe will begin on January 16 and will be casted by Manuel "Grubby" Schenkhuizen and Christopher "Tetcher" Ivermee. North America will start their journey the following weekend on the 23rd, with casters Josh “JHow” Howard and Jacob “SolidJake” Kulinski.
