Kakao Games’ SMiniz Launches Feb. 25 on iOS and Android, Featuring NCT, RIIZE and aespa

Kakao Games announced Thursday that its upcoming mobile title SMiniz, a match-3 puzzle game developed in partnership with SM Entertainment, will launch globally on Feb. 25 for iOS and Android devices.

The game features stylized chibi versions of artists from NCT, RIIZE and aespa, marking Kakao Games’ latest push into licensed entertainment properties tied to global fan communities. According to the publisher, SMiniz combines casual puzzle mechanics with collectible elements designed to appeal to K-pop fans.

In SMiniz, players complete match-3 puzzle stages while interacting with miniature character versions inspired by SM Entertainment’s artists. Kakao Games described the gameplay as accessible, emphasizing light progression systems and customization features rather than competitive mechanics.

The launch will be supported by a series of promotional events. Kakao Games said players can participate in an in-game event offering special Artist Cards, while an external merchandise giveaway will be held in collaboration with the SM Kwangya Store in Seoul.

Global pre-registration will remain open through Feb. 23 across regions including South Korea, Japan, North America, Europe and Taiwan. Players who pre-register will receive launch rewards, including a Group Draw Ticket, the company said.

Kakao Games said SMiniz received positive responses during its 2025 closed beta test. The company is overseeing global publishing and live service operations. Development duties are handled by METABORA, while SM Entertainment provides the intellectual property associated with its artists.

The title reflects a broader industry trend of games built around entertainment franchises and fan-driven ecosystems. Publishers increasingly target lifestyle-oriented audiences through hybrid designs blending gameplay with digital collectibles, cosmetics and social spaces.

SMiniz will include features such as customizable costumes inspired by artists, fan zone environments and collectible photocard-style items. Kakao Games did not disclose monetization details but indicated that the game will follow a live-service model.

Headquartered in Seongnam, Kakao Games continues to expand its portfolio across mobile and PC platforms. The company has previously released titles including Odin: Valhalla Rising, Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Eversoul and Guardian Tales. SMiniz launches globally Feb. 25.
