A mod has been released that allows players to experience Half-Life: Alyx without a VR headset.
Half-Life: Alyx, which bridges the story between the first and second games, was originally designed exclusively for VR headsets. Upon its announcement, it drew significant attention as the first new entry in the series in 16 years, but some fans were disappointed to learn that it could only be played with VR hardware.
That disappointment may soon be a thing of the past. It has been confirmed that a user named SoMNst is developing a 'No-VR' mod for Half-Life: Alyx. On the 28th, SoMNst shared the development progress by releasing a demo of the mod on their YouTube channel.
The core of the mod is that all sections originally requiring VR hand controllers can now be operated using a keyboard and mouse. In the video description, the developer noted, "The demo version shown in the video will be shared soon, and development is ongoing. I plan to complete the mod based on user feedback, so please look forward to the demo."
