NEXUS and VALOFE have announced the global launch of mobile MMORPG Chaos W, a reinterpretation of the Chaos Online IP. According to a release, the title launched globally on April 29th and has surpassed 1m pre-registrations ahead of its release. Chaos W combines elements from the original multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game with modern mobile role-playing game (RPG) systems, including progression mechanics and large-scale combat.
The title is being serviced in two versions: a domestic version for South Korea and a global edition integrated with CROSS, a blockchain-based game chain developed by NEXUS. According to the release, the global version of Chaos W uses an in-game currency called Red Diamonds. The currency has a total supply capped at 1bn units, with NEXUS claiming this has been designed to support scarcity within the game’s economy.
Players can acquire Red Diamonds by trading items earned through gameplay. The currency can then be used for in-game purchases or converted into Chaos W game tokens for use within the wider CROSS ecosystem. Ahead of launch, Chaos W used several CROSS services to build player interest. This included CROSS Play, a Telegram-based mini-app focused on community missions, as well as CROSS Wave, a platform designed to connect games with streamers and creators. The release claimed that more than 100 streamers are currently participating in a Chaos W campaign through CROSS Wave.
The platform’s reward system links creator compensation to the commercial performance of the game. NEXUS also said that CROSS Wave uses proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse content quality and creator contribution, with the aim of rewarding smaller creators alongside larger influencers.
Jae-myung Shin, CEO of VALOFE, commented: “Following the incredible interest from over 1m pre-registered users, we have conducted rigorous technical checks, including server expansion, to ensure a seamless global opening. “We will work closely with NEXUS to provide a service that satisfies both Web2 and Web3 players.”
Henry Chang, CEO of NEXUS, added: “CROSS is achieving significant qualitative and quantitative growth by encompassing both AI and blockchain technologies. “Through the organic integration of Chaos W and the CROSS platform, we will further solidify the trend of a ‘Participatory Platform’ where both users and games grow together.”
Web3 Gaming Push
The launch continues NEXUS’ push to combine games with blockchain-based systems. In Chaos W, this is centred around tokenised in-game assets and the ability to use game-linked tokens across the CROSS ecosystem.
The inclusion of CROSS Wave also adds a creator-focused element to the game’s launch strategy, with streamers being used to drive community engagement around the MMORPG. However, as with many blockchain-integrated games, the long-term performance of Chaos W will likely depend on whether it can retain players beyond its initial launch period and maintain demand within its in-game economy.
