Tripwire Interactive has rolled out its first major content update for Killing Floor 3, titled “Rearmament.” The free update is now live on all platforms — PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S — bringing new weapons, expanded customization, and significant gameplay improvements to the co-op horror shooter.
Released worldwide on July 24, 2025, Killing Floor 3 marks the next chapter in the long-running series. With the Rearmament update, Tripwire says it’s delivering one of the community’s most-requested features: the ability to mix and match specialists and perks. Players can now play any character with any perk, allowing for combinations like Mr. Foster running as a Commando or Medic. Future specialists and perks — including DJ Scully in Season 2 and the Gunslinger perk planned for 2026 — will also support this feature.
The update adds three new weapons modeled after real-world firearms, each with customizable attachments and mod support. The M14 EBR delivers high-precision semi-automatic fire, the MKR-350 Assault Rifle offers versatility with dual magazines and a polymer-tipped round option, and the Streik Dual Defender Shotgun introduces a new quad-barrel variant for close-range devastation. Weapon mods are now cheaper to equip, allowing players to upgrade their arsenals earlier in matches.
Major Gameplay Adjustments and Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Tripwire’s Rearmament patch also makes sweeping balance adjustments across nearly every weapon. Most firearms receive performance buffs to improve variety in player loadouts, while a small number of overperforming weapons have been slightly tuned down.
Enemy Zeds and bosses have been refined for better balance and consistency, including reduced damage from certain attacks and new “Zed Bump Physics.” This mechanic allows players to knock down or even destroy enemies by colliding with them, adding a physical, high-impact layer to the game’s movement system.
In addition to content and balance updates, Tripwire has implemented more than 100 performance optimizations and bug fixes. The studio confirmed that Rearmament sets the stage for the game’s upcoming Season 2 later in 2025.
