In-depth guide on Militia: Fighting in the Conquest War as a Militia

The Militia system has been added in Black Desert Online NA/EU. The Militia is a team composed of players who are not members of the attacking or defending guild in a Conquest War. The Militia can participate in the Conquest Wars that take place in a territory with a castle.

The Militia cannot own territory, but can help their friends conquer one. If a guild that you don’t like is defending a castle, you can participate in the attacking Militia to get back the castle or liberate the territory. If you don’t want the defending guild to lose its castle/territory, you can participate in the defending Militia to fight for the defending side.

There are certain conditions required to be eligible to participate in the Militia. Your AP+DP value must be over 400 in order to participate. Also, to prevent certain guilds from building a huge force using the Militia, only 50 players can participate in each side as Militia. If more than 50 players apply to participate in each side, only 50 randomly selected players can play as the Militia.

■ Applying for the Militia

In order to participate in a War as Militia, you will have to apply first. Click on the “Militia” button in the main menu (ESC), and choose the side (Attack or Defense) you would like to play for. You can apply for the Militia from 19:00 to 19:45 on Saturdays. Your current server’s name and the associated territory of the Conquest War you wish to fight in must match, or the Militia window will not be active. (e.g. Conquest War in Calpheon - Calpheon #1 server)

There are some prerequisites for participating in the Militia. First, your character must have over 400 AP+DP value. You must be in a guild, and your guild contract must be valid. Also, no more than 10 players in the same guild can participate in the Militia. You won’t be able to apply for the Militia if you don’t meet all the requirements.

Also, you cannot switch sides once you have applied for the Militia. If you try to apply for the attacking Militia after you have already applied for the defending Militia, a system message that says you have already applied for the Militia will pop up. If you cancel your request to participate in the Militia, you won’t be able to participate in any of the sides for that particular war.

A total of 100 players (50 on each side) will be selected as the Militia after 45 minutes have passed. When there are both attacking and defending guilds, 50 players will be playing for each side. (50 will be chosen via a random selection process.) If there are only defending guilds, 100 players will be chosen as the attacking Militia.

If there are less than 50 players in the Militia in total, there won’t be any Militia for that particular Conquest War. If the defending guild owns the territory in consecutive weeks, 10 additional players will be selected as the attacking Militia each week. For example, if the defending guild has owned the same territory for two weeks, 60 players will be selected as the attacking Militia. If the defending guild has owned the same territory for 3 weeks, 70 players will be selected as the attacking Militia. However, the defending Militia will always have 50 players.

■ Rules and Roles

A message that says you have been selected as the Militia will appear in the chat window when you successfully enter the Militia. From this moment, your name will be displayed as “Attack Militia” or “Defense Militia” only, so you will be able to hide your identity. Players who are in the same Militia will be able to use team chat. You will have 15 minutes to prepare for the war.

Usually there are a few players who communicate with the Militia’s allied guilds. The guilds might have some requests for the Militia, or might share some important information. Communication is recommended for more systematically organized Conquest Wars. Also, Militia members should be in a Platoon for more smooth communication.

If you have all the food and elixirs you need, wait until 20:00. When the Conquest War begins, a small icon that looks like a blue octopus on a castle wall will appear at the left of the mini map. Click on the icon, and you will teleport to the Militia base. There is no Command Post for the Militia, so the base will be your respawn area.

▲ Your name will be displayed as “Offense Militia” or “Defense Militia” so you can hide your identity.

The rules are simple. The attacking Militia can attack the defending guild and the defending Militia, and the defending Militia can attack the attacking guild and the defending Militia. The Militia can also attack enemy Command Posts, Field HQ, Wooden Fence, and Flame Towers.

The Militia cannot attack allied guild members, but the guild members can attack allied Militia if they turn on Forced PvP. This system was implemented in order to prevent espionage. Some guilds might send some spies to the opposing side and the spies leak important information or open castle gate. Guild members must kill these spies through Forced PvP.

The attacking Militia will win if they destroy the defending guild’s Command Post or Field HQ, and the defending Militia will win if they destroy all Command Posts and the Field HQ of the attacking side, or if they successfully defend their Command Post.

The Conquest War is over at 22:00 if no castle gate is destroyed before that time, and will be extended to 22:30 if the outer castle gate is destroyed and to 23:00 if the inner castle gate is destroyed. The Militia will be participating in the Conquest War full time, unless one side wins the war by destroying the other side’s Command Post.

In most cases, the Militia is not as organized as guilds and has less AP/DP. The Militia usually have different roles compared to the guild members.

The attacking Militia will stay with the attacking guild at first, as everyone has to work on destroying the castle gate. Everyone will attack the castle gate, fight against those who are trying to protect the castle gate, and check on the enemies who are going directly for the Command Post/Field HQ. When the castle gate is open, the attacking Militia can stay with the attacking guild to destroy enemy Command Posts or can go around to the back of the castle to destroy Hwacha or Flame Towers.

In the defending Militia, ranged classes usually position themselves on the wall and harass incoming enemies. Melee classes destroy enemy Command Posts, Field HQ, and Cannons. When the castle gate is destroyed and their Command Post/Field HQ is vulnerable, everyone goes for defense.

These are the basic roles, and each guild has its own strategy for the Conquest War. The War will end early if the attacking side destroys the defending side’s Command Post. If not, the war will last for 3 hours and will consume a lot of your time and energy.

■ Rewards

Silver Coins are waiting for the members of the winning Militia. There are two types of rewards: guild reward and personal reward. If a guild member participates in the Militia and wins, the guild will receive 20 million silver as guild fund, and 1 million silver will be sent to the person via mailbox.

Guild reward is only given once, regardless of the number of participants from the guild. If 10 players from the same guild all participates in the Militia and wins the war, each player will receive 1 million silver but the guild reward will still be a total of 20 million.

The reward will be given immediately after the Conquest War is over. The Guild reward will be added to the guild fund automatically, and the personal reward will be sent to each player via mailbox. Although the rewards are not that big, the Militia is a good system to use to participate in Conquest Wars and earn some guild funds. Unfortunately, there are no rewards for the Militia who have lost the war.
