Major9 announced on the 1st that it is in the process of acquiring the IP and development team for the subculture RPG 'Outerplane' from developer VA Games.
This acquisition is not a corporate merger and acquisition (M&A), but rather a transfer of the Outerplane IP and the dedicated development staff; VA Games will continue to operate as a separate development studio.
The two companies have worked closely together since signing a global publishing agreement for Outerplane last September. By combining Major9's global business capabilities with VA Games' development expertise, they have achieved significant results in user-friendly service operations and improved user satisfaction.
Notably, the 3rd-anniversary update for Outerplane, which followed the service transfer, surpassed 300k pre-registrations. It also reached No. 1 on the Google Play popularity charts in South Korea and Taiwan and entered the top ranks in the Japanese market, demonstrating strong performance globally.
Building on the service experience accumulated since last year, Major9 plans to directly manage the acquired IP and development team to expand its gaming business foundation. Furthermore, the company intends to strengthen its global competitiveness by leveraging the subculture worldview and character development capabilities established by Outerplane.
With this acquisition, Major9 will continue to manage Outerplane's services and ongoing content development, while also embarking on new project development, global market expansion, and the strengthening of its content IP business.
