Fortnite live event destroys map locations, brings back Drum Gun

Epic Games was back at it again Saturday afternoon with Fortnite's most recent in-game event taking place that destroyed numerous iconic locations across the map and brought back a gun from the vault.

Thirty minutes before the event was set to kick off at 3 p.m. EST, players could only play in a select game mode titled "The Unvaulting" and when the countdown timer in Loot Lake hit zero, the madness began.

Players were teleported through the ground to a different dimension with an opportunity to select one of six previously vaulted items to bring back into the game. Pillars with an image of the items appeared throughout the world and players quickly ran to the one they liked most and started hitting it as fast as they could to unlock it. The options were: the X-4 Stormwing Plane, Drum Gun, Tactical SMG, Grappler, Bounce Pads and the Infinity Blade.

Depending on the lobby you were in, the popular selection was the Drum Gun, where dozens of players flocked to the pillar and began smacking away at it. Shortly after the event started, the Drum Gun broke free from its' isolated state and was confirmed back in the game.

Players were then warped back into the game and their eyes turned to the erupting volcano near Sunny Steps. Numerous volcanic rocks shot out across the map, hitting Retail Row and Tilted Towers, exploding them on impact. Once the erupting concluded, players were left looking around at the destruction in front of them and could resume playing.

Time will tell if any other map alterations will take place before Fortnite's upcoming season kicks off on Thursday. But for players who were looking forward to a relaxing and typical weekend gaming with their friends on Fortnite, that went out the window with a boom.
