Comcast will spend $50 million to open Fusion Arena in Philadelphia

Philadelphia Flyers owner Comcast Spectacor will open an arena for its Overwatch League team, Phildadelphia Fusion, in 2021.

Fusion Arena will be the first of its kind. The $50 million investment between Comcast Spectacor and The Cordish Companies will be located in South Philly. Breaking ground will start this summer summer on part of the 47-acre stadium complex site that Comcast Spectacor leases in South Philadelphia. The 3,500-seat arena will rise on a parking lot, next to Xfinity Live! and within walking distance of the Linc, Citizens Bank Park, and the Wells Fargo Center.

Comcast Spectacor's Overwatch League team, Philadelphia Fusion, will begin playing its home matches in the arena in 2021 shortly after its opening. "This is a huge step for esports," said Overwatch League Commissioner Nate Nanzer. "This is something we will see pop up all over the world.”

Fusion Arena will be a 60,000 square foot venue, and due to its illustrious size and prestige will be utilized as a space for other Philadelphia Events when the Fusion are playing on the road.
