MaggoGx wins WePlay!'s $15,000 Artifact tournament

There's a new sherrif in Artifact town, going by the name of Georgy "MaggoGx" Khantashkeev. Over the weekend, the seasoned GWENT player made his breakout performance in Valve's card game by defeating his Chinese opponent Shana in the finals of the WePlay! Mighty Triad: Agility tournament, taking home half of the $15,000 prize pool.

Tournament Upsets

The six-day long saw a lot of upsets in its group stages. Being half invitational, half qualifiers, many new faces finally had a chance to prove themselves on a bigger Artifact stage. An opportunity many grabbed with both hands. More than half of the players that made it through WePlay!’s GSL groups came from the open qualifiers, leaving big community names like StanCifka and Hyped, the winner of WePlay!’s first Artifact tournament, behind them.

Dip in viewers?

The viewership of WePlay’s Artifact Mighty Triad: Agility tournament was considerably lower than its predecessor ‘Strength’, dropping from five digit numbers to a 3k-4k average. Nevertheless, these numbers can be considered impressive, given Artifact’s playerbase has shrunk dramatically too, and hovers around 3,000 player peaks nowadays. At several points during the weak, WePlay!’s tournament impressively boasted more viewers than the game being played on screen had concurrent players at the same time.
