G2 Perkz: "We had nothing to lose, but being the MSI, Asian Games, and LPL champions, RNG had everything to lose. "

On the 20th, at the Busan Bexco Auditorium, the 2018 League of Legends World Championship Quarterfinals match between EU LCS's G2 Esports and LPL's Royal Never Give Up took place. After a heated battle between the two teams, G2 came out on top with a score of 3-2. In the games that G2 had won, they displayed strong early game macro that eventually created and widened multiple leads moving onto the late game.

After their match against RNG, G2 Perkz was invited for an interview with Sjokz.

Perkz, what just happened?!

I don't know. (Laughs) I have no idea on what to say. It was definitely expected, right?

How are you so calm?

I just don't care. (Laughs) I've been so mentally drained in the last couple of weeks. I just played. We can win against anyone.

For years, there were a lot of disappointments surrounding G2. This year, however, you guys were the underdogs, but as a team, you guys showed up big.

We had nothing to lose, but being the MSI, Asian Games, and LPL champions, RNG had everything to lose.

There just happened to be some European team that was coming to get you. (Laughs)

How did you approach that last game?

I think we just realized that -- I mean it was kind of obvious that they were going to play around bot lane... We realized that our bot lane was going to be a hot place and that we should focus more on mid and jungle because their top side was considerably weaker in terms of involvement. That was basically how we approached the series and how we won.

I know that it feels surreal, but I'm going to try this one more time. Perkz, how did it feel to win the game 5 of a series where nobody was counting on you guys

It just didn't hit me... I'm just really proud of my team. They all played really well.

I've been really stressed recently, so I wasn't in my best mental state. I'm just really grateful for everything.

What do you want to say about your teammates?

I'm just really proud of all of them. They're all really, really good, and we played really well together. I just can't believe it. Our scrim times weren't the most productive either. I just can't believe it.
