Today, Blizzard released the following blog post detailing changes to the Support heroes of Overwatch. Popular supports like Brigitte and Mercy were both nerfed, with underused heroes like Ana, Lúcio, and Moira each receiving buffs.
Ana has received the biggest buff, with Nano Boost now instantly healing the target for 300 HP. This effect is also influenced by Biotic Grenade, allowing for even more burst healing in a pinch. You can see the full list of changes below:
- Nano Boost additionally heals the target instantly for 300 HP.
- Shield Bash cooldown increased from 6 to 7 seconds.
- Sound Barrier effect increased 50% from 500 to 750 shields.
- Crossfade aura radius increased 20% from 10m to 12m.
- Primary fire healing beam reduced 17% from 60 HP/s to 50 HP/s.
- Healing resource base regen rate increased 20%.
Fans are reacting to the patch positively as Brigitte and Mercy have been two of the most dominant supports for quite some time. Brigitte, in particular, has shaped the current meta with her powerful CC abilities and this nerf is an acknowledgement that Shield Bash was "very difficult to play around". The post also details how Brigitte maintains the highest win percentage of all support heroes while providing the lowest healing numbers: a true testament to the power of her stuns, shields, and damage.
Noticeably missing from this change list is Zenyatta, who still remains a vital pick in competitive play. In the blog post, Geoff Goodman, Overwatch Developer, explains the rationale behind leaving the omnic alone:
"We aren’t making any changes to Zen right now, as we feel he is in a pretty good spot. He is doing his job well as a hybrid damage/healer and being able to provide discord orb for your team will always be welcome."
We won't see these changes affect the Overwatch League for some time, but the rest of us can look forward to the next patch when these support changes will go live.
