“I’m going to bring it home to Korea and show it off to my mom” -Jjonak when asked what he will do with the Overwatch League MVP Trophy
With 30 first-place votes and 117 points from polling, Seong-Hyun “Jjonak” Bang, the support player from NYXL that revolutionized the position has won MVP for the first inaugural Overwatch League season.
Los Angeles Gladiators tank Chan-Hyung "Fissure" Baek placed 2nd place with six first-place votes and 58 overall points. In 3rd, Jae-Hyeok “Carpe” Lee of Philadelphia Fusion earned six first-place votes and 36 overall points.
Interestingly enough, Fissure was reportedly benched during the all-important playoff match against London Spitfire due to an inability to cooperate.* His status as the runner-up for MVP makes this supposed reason for benching is all the more problematic for Gladiators fans looking to rally over popularity.
* Fissure has recently commented on this rumor and confirmed that he merely thought it best for the team to play with an all English speaking squad for the playoffs and it was not a matter of non-cooperation.
To many, Jjonak was the surefire pick to win MVP. Not only was he playing on the team with the best overall record in the league, he also revealed the potential lethality of Zenyatta that very few players in the league could emulate. Leading in Zenyatta hero damage across all players in the league, he also ran away with most final blows and eliminations "per 10 minutes of gameplay"
