No more 100% PEN with Cron Stones - PA cancels Cron Enhancement and introduces new Enhancement system

On April 11th, Pearl Abyss released another GM’s Notes regarding the new Cron Stone Enhancement system, which was first revealed by an update preview on April 9th. In the new GM’s Notes, PA revealed that they decided to cancel the Cron Stone Enhancement system and add a new Enhancement system instead.

With the new Enhancement system, which will be called “the Caphras Enhancement” system, you will be able to enhance your gear to PEN safely. The original Enhancement system will still be available and the Caphras Enhancement will require the same amount or even more resources and effort as the original Enhancement system does.

You can either choose the original Enhancement system or the Caphras Enhancement system when enhancing your gear. Pearl Abyss has decided that the Caphras Enhancement will not require Cron Stones, but will require a new item called Caphras Stone. The Caphras Stones will be obtainable via grinding, mining, wood chopping, underwater gathering, and fluid collecting.

The Caphras Enhancement will be available for TRI or higher gear. You can summon the Black Spirit, choose the Caphras Enhancement menu, and add Caphras Stones to your gear. The gear will gain some amount of exp per enhancement, and will get additional item effects when the exp reaches a certain level. If the Caphras Level reaches 20, you can then do Force Enhancement. When the gear is Force Enhanced, the enhancement level will go up and the max durability will decrease by 100.

The Caphras Stones will be obtainable from the grind spots in Valencia, Kamasylvia, and Drieghan, by Gathering (mining, underwater gathering, fluid collecting), and via daily quests. The maximum price for Caphras Stone will be 1 million silver. Going from TRI to TET will require about 1.5 billion to 1.7 billion silver, and going from TET to PEN will require about 15 billion to 18 billion silver (based on weapons).

▲ The new enhancement system will not consume Cron Stones anymore.

Lastly, the GM’s Notes also mentioned Combat Power. Combat Power is the combined gear score of the character’s main AP, Awakening AP, and DP. There will be tiers for Combat Power, and characters will get bonus stats depending on their tier. Also, an icon that indicates the character’s Combat Power Tier will appear next to the character’s name. Pearl Abyss added that the system was designed to keep you motivated and to give you a clearer view of how your AP/DP is scaling. With that being said, the tier and the bonus stats will only be visible to yourself. However, if you are one of the top 0.1% Combat Power players, a special icon next to your character’s name will be visible to everyone, and PA is discussing the option to turn this icon on/off.

Pearl Abyss ended the notes saying that Black Desert Online has been out for years now, and they wanted to add more fun to the game. They also apologized for the controversy over the Cron Stone Enhancement system, and for not being clear enough in explaining the new Combat Power and tier system.

    Neat, I'm glad they're not going in the p2w direction with this new enhancement

    I'm glad they're adding this new enhancement system. Too much of the game is RNG and it doesn't feel rewarding when your gear score ultimately depends more on your luck than your effort. With this guarantee method, it gives more meaning to the time and work players put into the game.

    I think this is way better than the Cron Stone method.. So in KR they have the Cron Energy thing where you can add stats to a weapon right? Is that still going to be a thing? Is this replacing that?

      @That_Guy

      Yes, this system is replacing the Cron Stone Energy system =)

    Sounds good, the amount of silver required is probably the same if not more as doing the rng attempts, so that sounds quite balanced.

    Good, I was thankful to hear a more balanced way of using these Cron stones was established.

    Will this also affects acessories from TRI and more?

    • 0

      level 1 Yullie

      @Insidel The new enhancement system is only available for weapons and armors since the Caphras system is a replacement for the Cron Energy system and Accessories cannot have Cron Energy :(

      @Yullie

      Thank you for the answer. I think it is ok that this aspect (accessories) remain in original enhancement mode.

    I think the best thing to take away from this is that PA is actually listening to the playerbase. I hope we can get better quality of life changes like getting rid of the weird way of overstacking now.

    um, WHAT THE HELL is the difference between this and cron energy? From where I look at it, it looks like the only difference is that this starts at TRI and uses a different item.

      @Mernom

      From the sounds of this since you'l only be able to obtain this from active play unlike the cron stone which you can buy from vendors. This sounds like it'l be a marketplace item and limited not to dissimilar from hard/sharps/black stones market usage. Saying the item maximum value is 1million. It remains to be seen how common/uncommon such and item will be for you to be able to obtain 18billions worth of it. Though it may increase the value of certain activities for those of us that are not interested in caphras enhancement over rng.

      The difference is that in some countries the Cron is sold by Pearls, which would destroy the game.

    Nice!At least you can't melt costumes for easy PENs with crone stones anymore

  • 0

    level 1 neocodex

    wait, do we know if you'll be able to just buy these stones at npc like cron stones or will they be rare drop like dream horse crafting(and we'll have to snipe mp for it just like for sharps and dreams so it's basically nothing changed)?

    RnG or not for pens the last thing this game needed was p2w option. They are making it carebear enough as is.

    For me its the wrong way they are now going, Cron System was a very good Idea it just need some optimisation.

    • 0

      level 1 Veroncia

      @eXXs

      This system is just changing the item used, so its not much different than it would've been with Cron Stones. This just prevents certain regions from being able to buy pearl items and melt them for cron material, and have the ability to technically swipe your way to PEN. I don't see an issue with the new system.

    I was very happy with the change in enchantment for not Pay2Win. I was already preparing to leave the game permanently, and now I am relieved to be able to continue in the game that I love. Thank you PA for the change.

    This change seems great, however will whatever is replacing the Cron Stones be purchasable from NPC's? It would be a shame if this is limited by MP purchases.

    • 0

      level 1 Veroncia

      @Dogloks I doubt they will be purchasable from NPC's, but they might have a pretty damn decent drop rate from gathering and grinding. Hopefully this is the case and it isn't going to take hundreds of hours to acquire the materials for a tet enhancement :P

    Thanks for the update inven, looking forward to hearing more about this new system. Also I wonder how much it costs for a green item to be caphrased?

    I wonder what the drop rate will be.

    • 0

      level 1 Veroncia

      @LexiiBunnii

      That'll probably be the deciding factor on whether the system will flourish or become a useless gimmick. Hopefully the latter <3

    level 1 Iain_MacGregor

    I am much happier with a measurable nonRNG grind, unbelievably happier about this. Although I wish it was available for all tiers but it'll suffice for now.

    what? thats a pretty massive change late in the game... as long as its not p2w i guess its fine
