The release date for Sony's Santa Monica Studio's new title 'God of War Laufey' has been delayed to May 20, 2027. This pushes the schedule back by roughly three months from its original release date of February 16, 2027.
Santa Monica Studio announced the delay on its official X account on the 5th. The developers stated, "Since revealing God of War Laufey last June, we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming interest in Faye's journey," adding, "We feel a profound sense of responsibility to deliver an exceptional experience worthy of our fans' passion and dedication."
They continued, "With this in mind, we have decided to push back the release date of God of War Laufey to May 20, 2027," explaining, "We will do our best to make full use of the remaining time to refine the game's quality and unlock its maximum potential." Finally, the development team thanked fans for waiting and added that they would reveal further news about the game soon.
God of War Laufey is a new mainline entry in the God of War series, first revealed last June. It features Kratos' wife and Atreus' mother, Laufey—also known as Faye—as the protagonist instead of Kratos.
The game begins as Faye, following her death, awakens in the Everywhen, the afterlife of the gods. Realizing that the plan she had set in place to protect Kratos and Atreus is now in jeopardy, Faye sets off on a journey to save her loved ones. The Everywhen is a world where gods from various mythologies clash for power, where Faye must contend with a variety of deities and monsters.
God of War Laufey is scheduled to launch on PS5 on May 20, 2027.
