HP announced on the 5th that it has appointed Emma Walmsley as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Walmsley, who was unanimously appointed by the Board of Directors, will begin her term on January 4, 2027.
With this appointment, both the CEO position and the role of Chair of the Board will undergo a transition. Walmsley joins as successor to Bruce Broussard, who has served as interim CEO since February 2026. On the same day, Broussard will succeed Chip Bergh as Chair of the Board. Bergh joined HP's Board of Directors in 2015 and has served as Chair since 2017, remaining in his current role until the succession date.
Walmsley previously served as CEO of GSK and has been a member of Microsoft's Board of Directors for the past seven years. She joined GSK in 2010, served as CEO of Consumer Healthcare in 2015, and later became group CEO. She led GSK from April 2017 to December 2025. Prior to joining GSK, she built and led global consumer goods businesses at L’Oréal for 17 years.
HP explained that at GSK, Walmsley focused on specialty medicines and vaccines after spinning off the consumer healthcare business, while strengthening its R&D pipeline and financial structure. Regarding her appointment, HP stated that she will focus on securing growth drivers in the AI era based on her experience leading large-scale organizational transformations.
Interim CEO Broussard praised Walmsley's experience in managing and transforming large-scale organizations, describing her as someone who can bring together HP's businesses, capabilities, and talent to capture opportunities as AI expands into the on-device realm. Board Chair Bergh stated that this appointment is the result of a global search program focused on the capabilities needed for HP's next leap forward.
New CEO Walmsley stated, "I am thrilled to join the team and move forward together with a clear vision and conviction. I will focus on actively leveraging the momentum of the AI era, bringing together HP's creativity and innovation capabilities to secure new growth drivers, and delivering sustainable value to customers, shareholders, partners, and employees alike."
Chair Bergh expressed his gratitude to Broussard for his contributions to the board's vetting process, adding that he expects him to provide continuity and counsel during the leadership transition even after assuming the chairmanship. Broussard noted that Bergh has driven HP's transformation over the past nine years with a focus on governance, capital allocation, and value creation.
HP operates in more than 180 countries. It provides products, services, and subscription models across sectors including personal computing, printing, 3D printing, hybrid work environments, and gaming.
