Kakao Games' new MMORPG 'World of Dokkaebi' has climbed to 2nd place in Google Play revenue rankings four days after launch.

Officially released on the 8th, the game reached 1st place in Google Play's popularity ranking on its launch day. On Apple's App Store, it claimed 1st place in popularity on the 6th, two days earlier, on the day pre-downloads opened.
World of Dokkaebi was developed by Supercat, the studio behind 'The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon', and is published by Kakao Games. Kakao Games secured domestic and international publishing rights for the title, excluding China.
The game is based on the Naver web novel and webtoon 'Myeolgwi Sudojeon'. Written by author Yeon Woo-sol, the story is a Korean-style cultivation fantasy, with the game set approximately 300 years before the original work. It features pixel art infused with traditional Korean sensibilities, combining 2D pixel characters with 3D backgrounds to bring out both a retro vibe and a three-dimensional sense of space. It also incorporates a deck-building system that allows players to craft combat styles by combining skills without fixed classes.
Player feedback gathered prior to launch was reflected in the game's live operations policy. During a live demonstration stream in September, Kakao Games took pre-submitted questions and live Q&A, subsequently announcing that outfits and mounts would not grant growth-related stats. This measure ensures that purchasing cosmetic items does not lead to character performance gaps. The membership subscription period was also extended from 28 days to 30 days.
Supercat's previous title, 'The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon', reached 2nd place in Google Play revenue eight days after its release through Nexon in July 2020. World of Dokkaebi reached the same spot four days faster.
During a recent conference call, Kakao Games stated that it viewed Q2 and Q3 as its revenue trough and projected that the impact of new releases would begin reflecting in full starting in Q4. Following World of Dokkaebi, the company aims to turn a profit in Q1 of next year by sequentially rolling out 'Dungeons Arise' within the year, followed by 'Odin Q: Valkyrie's Call' and 'God Save Birmingham' early next year.
