Kakao Games Corp. announced on the 8th that its new 2.5D MMORPG World of Dokkaebi reached No. 1 on the popularity charts of Google Play and the Apple App Store. On the Apple App Store, it climbed to No. 1 on the popularity chart on the 6th, when pre-downloads began. On Google Play, it also achieved No. 1 on the day of its official launch.
Developed by Supercat, World of Dokkaebi is an MMORPG based on the IP (Intellectual Property) of Naver's web novel and webtoon The Tale of Cultivation and Demon Extermination. Utilizing pixel art that incorporates traditional Korean themes, it combines 2D pixel characters with 3D backgrounds to deliver both a retro feel and a sense of three-dimensional space. Player feedback gathered prior to release was reflected in service operations. During a live demonstration showcase in September, Kakao Games gathered feedback through pre-submitted questions and real-time Q&A, announcing that growth-related stats would not be applied to costumes and mounts. The membership usage period was also extended from the previous 28 days to 30 days.
Following the release, Kakao Games plans to continuously gather user feedback through its official communication channel, the Dokkaebi Assembly, and reflect it in the service. Detailed information about the game can be found on the official website and official community.
To commemorate topping the popularity charts on both major stores, Kakao Games is distributing one 'No. 1 Commemorative Sorcery Fragment Selection Box,' one 'Dye Selection Box,' and 111,111 'Yeopjeon' (brass coins). Using the 'No. 1 Commemorative Sorcery Fragment Selection Box' allows players to select and receive one of 25 types of sorcery. Selectable sorcery fragments include 'Fortitude,' 'Devotion,' 'Incantation,' 'Deception,' and 'Mobility'.
Cha Myung-soo, Head of Business at Kakao Games, said, “Seeing the immense interest and support shown for World of Dokkaebi even before launch reminded us once again of our promise to listen to players' voices and build a user-centered service,” adding, “We will continue our service without losing our original intent so that we can repay the current interest and expectations”.
