Arknights: Endfield to launch on Steam alongside Sanctuary of Ink update

Arknights: Endfield will launch on Steam on October 15th, the same day its next free content update, Sanctuary of Ink, goes live.

The announcement came from GRYPHLINE, the game's global publisher. Arknights: Endfield is a 3D real-time strategy role-playing game (RPG) set in the same universe as the mobile title Arknights. Until now, PC players could only play it through the official launcher or the Epic Games Store. According to a release, the game supports cross-platform progression, which GRYPHLINE said will let existing players carry on where they left off.

What's in Sanctuary of Ink

The update adds a new chapter to the main story, set inside a landscape painting created by a character named Si. She brings the injured Endministrator (the player character) to recover at Yuanyuan Manor Inn, which sits within the painting itself. Strange events in the surrounding mountains then pull the pair into a storyline linked to something that happened a decade earlier.

Exploration in the new area revolves around Si's brush. Players use it to paint across gaps in the landscape, creating bridges and opening up new paths. The painted world is also home to creatures formed from objects inside the scroll, and some of them are hostile.

"Try using Si's 'Miracle Brush'. With a gentle stroke across the gap between the cliffs, a bridge rises into the air," said AJ, Narrative Designer on Arknights: Endfield. AJ added: "Every stroke made with it quietly changes the daily lives of the creatures within the painted world, bringing warmth and life back to this long-silent scroll."

Two new Operators

Si is also one of two new Operators, the game's playable characters, arriving with the update. In combat, she can draw an Inksoul from an enemy, and any damage or effects dealt to it are passed back to the original target. This means players can keep hitting an enemy through its Inksoul after it moves out of reach, or use a skill on the Inksoul to interrupt a charging attack. Her abilities also strengthen Cryo and Heat teammates.

The second addition is Argent Flow, described in the release as an old acquaintance of the Endministrator. He fights with a mix of sword and spear techniques and rides into battle on his warhorse, Nuli. His ultimate sees him charge forward on Nuli before leaping into the air for a finishing strike, while a later story event will explore his past. Both characters will be released one after the other through recruitment events during the update.

New challenge modifiers and a countryside inn

The Contingency Contract mode returns with Indigo Experimental Operation, which lets players pick modifiers that pair strong advantages with tactical restrictions. One greatly increases combo-skill damage, for example, but temporarily blocks further combo skills after every two casts. For the first time, some modifiers will also give enemies extra attack patterns. GRYPHLINE said changes based on player feedback make challenge settings easier to select and reuse.

Away from combat, a new mode called Yuanyuan's Blazing Stoves puts players in charge of a countryside inn. Players grow crops and raise animals, cook the produce into dishes for guests, then spend their earnings on expanding the farm and inn. Different operating themes unlock extra recipes, and an Auto-Farmer can take over sowing and harvesting (later extending to a farming area in Wuling as the story progresses).

Soundtrack and quality-of-life changes

The update's Eastern fantasy setting has also shaped its music, which draws on colour bass, afrobeat and UK garage. Contributors include Black Myth: Wukong composer Zhai Jinyan, Death Stranding composer Ludvig Forssell, Chinese avant-garde electronic band 8:48 and returning musician Crywolf.

Sanctuary of Ink also adds saved equipment loadouts, more precise mouse targeting and the option to set priority for combo skills that trigger at the same time. Players will be able to place field equipment straight from facilities or construction materials in their depot, rather than carrying them in their backpack. The mouse targeting changes arrive as the game prepares to reach a wider PC audience on Steam.

Arknights: Endfield since launch

Arknights: Endfield launched on January 22nd on PlayStation 5, PC and mobile, marking the first time the Arknights series had expanded beyond mobile devices. According to GRYPHLINE, the original Arknights has passed 100m downloads. Endfield recently won the People's Choice Award and the AudioVisual Excellence award at Pocket Gamer's 2026 Mobile Game Awards, and was also nominated for Game of the Year and Best Game Innovation.

The game is free to play and has received new Operators, maps and boss fights through free updates since release. Players can wishlist it on Steam now ahead of the October 15th launch.
