AION 2, NC America's free-to-play open-world massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), passed 400,000 concurrent players (CCU) on Steam shortly after launch, according to a release. The CCU figure counts how many people were in the game at the same moment.

At the time of the release, AION 2 held the number one spot on three of Steam's charts at once. These were Top Sellers, which ranks games by revenue, Popular New Releases and Trending Free. Steam, the PC gaming platform, is one of two places the game can be played, with NC's own PURPLE platform being the other.

Early access for AION 2 opened on September 30th. Since then, the game has stayed at the top of Steam's Global Top Sellers chart and of the charts in 15 individual territories, NC America said. Those territories include Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States.

War For Atreia creator campaign

Alongside the launch, NC has been running a creator event called War For Atreia. The campaign sees 60 streamers from North America, Europe and South America compete for their in-game faction from September 30th to October 14th. Viewers can earn Twitch Drops, in-game rewards unlocked by watching streams, while any of the rostered creators are live.

The game is built around flight, which the release described as AION 2's 'signature experience'. According to NC America, players can fly freely across a world 36 times larger than the original AION, as well as dive underwater. Aerial combat features in both player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) gameplay.

Who is behind AION 2?

AION 2 is published in the West by NC America, the western publishing division of NC. NC is the developer and publisher behind the original AION, as well as Blade & Soul, Lineage and Guild Wars. NC America is based in Irvine, California, and handles live production and publishing for select NC titles across North America, South America, Europe and Oceania.

According to the release, NC America plans to add more NC-developed games to its portfolio. The company also intends to launch original third-party titles globally. AION 2 is available to play for free now on Steam and PURPLE.
