Red Bull Legends Inn, the Apex Legends duos tournament where Twitch chat picks the challenges, will be held at Snowbird Resort in Utah on December 4th.
Nineteen duos will compete for a $25,000 prize at the resort's Cliff Lodge. The event is now in its third year, and this is its first stop in Utah.
Red Bull athletes Timmy ‘iiTzTimmy’ An and Phillip ‘ImperialHal’ Dosen will host the tournament. Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts (EA). Squads drop onto a shrinking map and fight until one team is left standing.
“We’re excited to bring Red Bull Legends Inn to Utah during the start of the winter season, giving our tournament a new cozy vibe,” iiTzTimmy said. “But there won’t be anything cozy about the challenges the competitors will face. With $25,000 on the line, only the team that can stand on top will walk away as champion.”
How does Red Bull Legends Inn work?
According to a release, each duo will play from its own custom gaming suite inside the Cliff Lodge. All teams will play nine rounds, and Twitch viewers will choose a modifier for each round that changes how it plays. Points are awarded for eliminations, placement and match wins. The team with the most points after nine rounds will be crowned champion.
The format is a departure from the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS), the game's official esports circuit run by EA, which uses teams of three. Red Bull said the event lets the audience influence gameplay and claimed it gives fans on site ‘unprecedented access’ to watch Apex Legends pros play in person.
How to qualify and watch
Two online qualifiers will take place on October 3rd and 4th, open to professional and creator duos from around the world. Winning either one earns a place at the Utah event. Full details are available on Red Bull's Legends Inn website.
Spectator tickets are free and will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. According to the release, those attending will get access to select floors of the venue for behind-the-scenes viewing. The tournament will also be livestreamed on Red Bull's Twitch channel.
Snowbird sits in Little Cottonwood Canyon outside Salt Lake City and has operated as a ski and mountain resort for more than 50 years. Red Bull runs several other esports events, including the VALORANT tournament Red Bull Home Ground and the fighting game event Red Bull Kumite.
