Ubisoft has officially revealed its new title, Rainbow Six Tactics. A tactical simulation game set in the Rainbow Six universe, Ubisoft explained that the background behind its development was to create an immersive tactical game for those familiar with Rainbow Six. Additionally, they noted that they hope it serves as an opportunity to naturally introduce Siege to the older generation of players, and the original Rainbow Six and Vegas to the current generation.
A Goal to Be Enjoyed by All Generations

As mentioned in the introduction, the Rainbow Six franchise boasts a long history. Consequently, its player base naturally spans different generations. They can broadly be divided into two groups: those who played from the original up to Vegas, and those currently playing Siege.
The development team wanted to create a game that both generations could comfortably enjoy together, and settled on combining Rainbow Six with tactical strategy mechanics as their answer. To deliver an experience that spans both generations, they struck a balance between the classic titles and Siege. Notably, Tactics consists entirely of a single-player experience with no in-game purchases or microtransactions. They declared that instead of a live-service model, it will be a narrative-driven game, much like the classic entries.
In terms of characters, players carry out operations with Siege Operators familiar to the current generation of players, while Paul Bishop, the protagonist of Rainbow Six Vegas, appears as the in-game commander. Through Tactics, Ubisoft aims to naturally re-establish the narrative connection with the older titles that had been severed since the release of Siege.

How Rainbow Six Tactics is Structured

The development team indicated that while developing Rainbow Six Tactics, they strove to follow the conventions of traditional military tactics games while blending in the unique identity of Rainbow Six.
Players will carry out operations across the globe, where even on the same map, missions alternate between objectives such as Hostage Rescue, Bomb Disposal, and VIP Capture, much like in Siege. Resources earned after completing operations can be used to upgrade headquarters and unlock elements such as new Operators.
As a tactics game, players assemble a squad, leveraging the unique abilities of the Siege characters to carry out operations. The development team explained that 15 Operators will be available at launch, with further unlocks taking place as players progress through the game. Based on this explanation, just as different Operator combinations in Siege lead to varied scenarios, this synergy with shifting mission objectives should allow for replayability with a fresh feel even on the same map.
Additionally, it was confirmed that a drone phase exists to scout indoor movements before entering. Just as in Siege, players will use drones to recon the interior before planning their operation and executing room clearing.
12 maps set around the world will be provided, including a Korean map, and the development team particularly emphasized that all maps were handcrafted. No procedural generation was used; instead, elements on each map were deliberately placed by the dev team to avoid the inconsistent experience procedural generation can bring, offering players a smooth and refined tactical experience.

Developed by Ubisoft Paris, Connecting Narratively with Siege

Rainbow Six Tactics will be developed by Ubisoft Paris, which has worked on titles such as Mario + Rabbids, Star Wars Outlaws, and Rayman. Furthermore, the studio is collaborating narratively with the Rainbow Six Siege team to bridge the gap between Year 10 and Year 11. In Year 10, Team Rainbow disbands following an operation to eliminate Phobos of the Keres Legion, and Tactics will depict the process of their reformation.
Rainbow Six Tactics is aiming for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
