DRX Deft: "We have to face DK, T1, and GEN — the favorites. I’ll make sure that we beat all of them."

On June 26, in the 2022 LCK Summer Split, DRX managed to sweep Kwangdong Freecs 2-0 and extended their winning streak to four. With a 4-0 record, they put themselves tied aside Gen.G and T1. The Players of the Games for this match were Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon and Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu. They joined Yoon Soo-bin after the match for an interview.

You’re on a great 4-game winning streak. How do you feel?

Deft: I’m happy we extended our winning streak, and I’m also happy that I got voted as the POG.

Kingen: I also feel really good since we’re on an undefeated streak.

How was getting voted as the POG unanimously?

Deft: Kalista has been like a launch pad recently, but I’m proud to have dealt decent damage this time.

It was the first time that one team picked Corki and Kalista together. What was the intention? How is Kalista in the recent meta?

Deft: They don’t have a specific synergy, but since Corki is rather weak in the early game, Kalista can aid in getting through the early game. As the person playing Kalista, she’s fun and good, but the coaching staff seems to think that it gets worse in the late game, so as a team, we don’t really prefer the pick.

How was the moment when you got a triple kill and scored an Ace at the Elder Dragon?

Deft: The game should have been over at the top side before that situation, but I wasn’t able to use my Stopwatch. Since my Stopwatch was available, I did alright and we were able to win.

How about a word to Pyosik?

Deft: I’m happy that you did well.

In game 2, you picked Twitch early. Gen.G had used the Twitch-Yuumi comp, but you played it with Rakan. How’s the synergy?

Deft: Twitch and Rakan have great synergy, so it’s really great in teamfights. Also, it’s not too difficult to play against Zeri during the laning phase.

Kingen did extremely well in game 2. You dealt 3,262 damage in one teamfight. How did you manage to do it?

Kingen: The moment I used my ult, I thought of the moment I did that before. I thought it was the same situation — I didn’t know all five would get hit. I never thought it would be such a great highlight reel. The opponents crossed the line, so I punished them.

Deft seemed to be pleasantly surprised.

Deft: There was a similar moment when I was playing from home because of the quarantine. If he starts a fight that way, we can win even if I don’t even touch the keyboard.

Kingen: Deft isn’t generous with his praises, so I’m happy about that.

Many people say that DRX’s top side has improved a lot. As the oldest player on the team, how do you feel?

Deft: I would have been really proud of them if I did my role well during the winning streak, but since it doesn’t feel that I did, I can’t just be happy. I’m still grateful for getting us the wins.

Your next match will be against Liiv SANDBOX. I assume you wouldn’t want to stop your winning streak.

Kingen: Our form has been rising every day, so I don’t think we’ll have much trouble in our next match. I’ll go for a clean 2-0 sweep.

Deft: After playing Liiv SANDBOX, we have to face DWG KIA, T1, and Gen.G — the favorites. I’ll make sure that we beat all of them.
